Our Campaigns
Strengthening the Heart of Transit
Most recently, RITR has been focused on expressing to the state the importance of Kennedy Plaza’s status as RIPTA’s central hub. RITR opposes RIDOT’s multi-hub transit proposal, as it would make RIPTA less accessible and less convenient for riders.
Fighting Fare Hikes
RITR has worked to ensure that bus fares remain affordable to all riders, with a particular focus on accessibility for low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
2014 Transit Bond
The 2014 public transit referendum was a public initiative to increase funding to public transit across the state. RITR supported and raised awareness about the need for a sound transit system, and the statewide approval of the referendum raised 35 million dollars for public transit.
Rider Representation
RITR worked with Representative Eileen S. Naughton (D-21 Warwick) to pass state legislation that guaranteed rider representation on the RIPTA board of directors.
Basic Rider Needs
RITR has advocated for statewide adoption of several convenience measures, such as the installment of bike racks and public restrooms, the guarantee of snow removal from bus stops, and the rebuilding of the Gateway Center for riders in Newport.
